Bruised by Elphena Elsar is a collection of poems and letters the author wrote for, and about her mother who passed away from cancer. For the cover, I wanted to evoke the despair, chaos, and hope that is often felt throughout the grieving process and this book.
I illustrated the cover by hand.
I began with research and sketching out different ideas and using my iPad to create illustrations and watercolor imagery.
There were two different directions I ended up developing until the final cover was complete.
