Treasured Spices is a fictional zero-waste spice company that celebrates the history and folklore of each spice. To align with the brand's eco-conscious values, I designed the packaging to include glass jars topped with bamboo lids, encouraging reusability and sustainability. The reusable cotton drawstring bags would be used for refills. The logo features a key with a star anise head which is meant to represent the key to a treasure chest, signifying the spices are the treasure. This relates back to the history of black pepper which was also called "black gold" and was once used as a form of currency.
For the Point-of-Sale Display found below, I designed a wooden treasure chest that was laser-engraved with the Treasured Spices logo and other designs.
Each bamboo lid was laser-engraved with a design representing the specific spice found inside. The drawstring bags were screen-printed with spice illustrations on the front and included historical blurbs and a map on the back. I researched the history and folklore of each spice in order to write the blurb and the map is used to showcase where the spice originated.
I tied physical wooden keys and tags made from up-cycled wood scraps to each bag. The wooden keys match with the design on the lid of the glass jars and each tag states the spice, net weight, and that it was made from up-cycled wood scraps.
Each glass jar has a label with a window I hand-cut that matches with the shape of the spice's lid and wooden key. The labels on the back have a small blurb on what foods the spice is used in and its flavor. Each label also states that the spices are fair trade to support local farmers and have the fair trade certification logo, the recycle symbol, and the 1% for the planet logo.
The website I created for the company contains the following pages: Spice Refills, Glass Jars, About Us, Eco Blog, and a quiz to get an additional 10% off your order.
